Do You Have GAS (Google Ad Sense)?
Did you like the subject line? Made you open it, didn't it...
There is a new cooperative advertising model that has been quietly changing the way web sites generate income. It's called Google Ad Sense, and I have to say that Audrey and I are thrilled to have put it to use.
Incidentally, you probably HAVE already heard of GAS (That's "Google Ad Sense" for the less than couth), because it's been around for about 3 months. We have been using it for that period of time, but honestly I don't think you can make an accurate judgment about any new business strategy until you've put it to good use for at least 2 months. That's why some of the products that we recommend may seem like yesterdays news - but we don't want to sing the praises of the "latest-greatest" unless it has some proven merit.
Well, we've had a chance to live with Google Ad Sense now and we have come to the conclusion that it's one of the easiest revenue streams that we've ever implemented.
Now, just so you know, in order to participate in GAS, you must agree to their terms of service, which forbid any and all disclosure of the amount of income that has been earned by participation. That's kind of a bummer, because I'd like to give you a sense of how easy it was to make money from GAS. So, I'm counting on your High Opinion of me to believe me when I say that this program is worth it on every level.
First, an explanation.
Hopefully you're already familiar with Google Ad Words - those are the little Mint Green Pay Per Click Ads that appear on the right hand side of Google's Search Engine Results. As you know, when you click on one of these ads, you're taken to an advertiser's site, and the advertiser pays a fixed bid amount for that click.
Simple right?
Yes, it's so simple, and Google Ad Words are so effective at driving traffic to web sites (if you do it correctly) that Overture has admitted that GAW is giving them a run for their money...
Okay, now imagine if you could put those little Mint Green Pay Per Click Ads on YOUR web site and get PAID every time someone clicks on one of them? And if your Ad Sense Ad is for a popular and expensive keyword, you could make some serious income.
That is what Google Ad Sense is all about.
GAS allows you to share in the revenue generated by Google's Pay Per Click Advertising Service by placing Topic Relevant Ads on your own web site. The process couldn't be simpler - you don't even have to choose the advertisers, because Google will do it according to the theme of the content of your site.
So, you sign up for the program, place an HTML table on your site (you can choose either a vertical table or a horizontal table), and insert some custom HTML code that Google gives you, and presto!
The next time you publish your site, you'll have Google Ad Words in the table that you created waiting to make you some cash.
--How would I use it?
Well, let's say that you're an affiliate marketer. Maybe you have a bunch of affiliate web sites already in circulation that recommend products through affiliate links.
Well, hold onto your laptop because GAS can increase the income generating potential of your site dramatically. Simply by placing GAS ads on your affiliate site, depending on the amount of traffic that site receives, you could end up with a site that suddenly generates real income.
You see, GAS ads are content specific, meaning that the subject matter of the advertiser stays consistent with the content of the site that the ad is on.
So, if you have a site about Telescopes, the ads from GAS will be Telescope related. Now, when someone arrives at your Telescope affiliate site, you have 2 ways to earn income. The first way is through your traditional affiliate links. If your visitor clicks through AND makes a purchase, you'll get paid. But as we affiliate marketers can attest, that process requires big traffic numbers.
Now with GAS (are you laughing yet?) when a visitor arrives at your web site, the only thing you need to do to generate incomes is have that visitor click on one your Ad Sense Ads.
It really is that simple, and we've done it with awesome results. Like I said earlier, I can't tell you how Awesome, but let's just say that in fully 34% of our affiliate sites, GAS has outpaced that site's previous affiliate revenue...
--Things to watch out for...
First, your site has to be quality. And when I say "quality" I mean that it must contain, at some level, enough relevant content for the GAS bot (2 points for that one) to ascertain a theme. So, if your site is full of many different kinds of un-related content, or it's one of those creepy sites that have nothing but affiliate links, Google may not approve you for GAS use.
Second, your site must have at least modest traffic. If your site is less than 30 days old, you might have issues getting approved for GAS (I'm nearly on the floor now.)
Third, you cannot, under any circumstance try to influence you visitors to click on the GAS ads. You also cannot "test" the ads. Believe me, Google tracks each GAS ad click via IP address. Your IP address is like your Internet fingerprint, and if Google catches your fingerprint clicking on your own GAS ads, they will give you ONE warning.
Then they will kick you to the curb.
--Should you use GAS?
If you're an affiliate marketer, you should absolutely TEST Gas until you can draw your own conclusions. If you're a forum moderator or keep an online newsletter, you might suddenly find that these kinds of sites, which are normally non-revenue producing, can earn their keep, and maybe a little extra.
If you're a storeowner, well, I have to admit that I have NOT tested GAS, and frankly I probably wont. After working as hard as we do to get a paying customer to our store, we don't want to send them back out into the world for a 50-cent commission when we could sell them a $200 sword. Ya know what I mean?
What if you don't have a site and you want to build one? What kind of site should I build?
This all depends on your interests, but if you are building a site specifically for GAS, then why not build a site that will draw the kind of GAS ads that pay a bundle?
You see, the amount that you get paid for clicks on your sites GAS ads all depends on how much the advertiser was willing to bid. In some cases, you might only get a few cents for a click, but if your site has content that is also attracting High Ticked GAS ads, you might make $1, $2, or more PER CLICK.
So, if you're just starting from scratch, look for themes that you're familiar with that ALSO have high Google Ad Words Bids. Take a look at the awesome tools called Google Ad Words Analyzer. It zooms through Keywords that are being used in Google Ad Words campaigns and organizes them according to both bid amount and keyword.
Using a tool like this, you can target specific high-ticket keywords on your site in order to draw the high dollar value Ad Sense ads.

That's it. I hope it was a GAS!

P.S. I’ve talked about Ken Evoy in the past. He’s always on the cutting edge of Internet Marketing, and I own all but one of his products.
Anyway, he has this REALLY incredible information site that’s all about Google Ad Sense.
It’s close to 20 pages of really well presented information, and it has very specific examples of the right way and wrong way to implement Google Ad Sense.
So, I thought you might like to take a look. I must admit, his Ad Sense stuff is better than mine – but he can’t tell a joke the way I can – so I guess that makes us almost even.
The articles get really interesting around the second page. | |
