Mistake #4 – E-Commerce Store Owners Don’t Market their E-Commerce Stores.

You need customers to buy your products.

Duh.

How do you get those customers to come to YOUR Store and buy YOUR products?

You tell them that you have the Product that they want to buy!

That’s Marketing 101.

So how come so many E-Store Owners Don’t do this?

“What do you mean Andy, I’ve Submitted my Store to 23,457 Search Engines?”

Sigh.

I’m not knocking search Engines – When they’re working for you, they can do wonders for your sales.

But they are just the Tip of the Iceberg!

There are so many inexpensive methods of Marketing and Advertising available to an E-Commerce Store Owners that you could make a good living selling products without ever having a search engine listing.

So why don’t E-Commerce Store owners use these alternative methods of marketing?

1)         They simply don’t know about them.  They have been weaned on the Search Engine Myth.  They believe that they can simply open their store, submit it to a search engine and they will get all of the customers that they ever need.  If this was the case, how come we don’t all have E-Commerce Stores?

2)         They think that they are in the Selling Product X Business.  Wrong again!  If you want to succeed in E-Commerce, you are going to need to learn about Internet Marketing.  Most folks completely overlook marketing their store, instead focusing on their fancy product line and how many Flash Animations that they can squeeze onto their home-page

3)         They are unwilling to pay any money to get a customer.  They say,“ Why should I spend Money on advertising when Search Engines are Free?”

Yeah? Not for Long.

Have you tried submitting your Store to the Yahoo! Directory?

It Costs $299!

Look, the most successful Internet Marketers (Store Owners) know their profit margins so well that they can tell you exactly how much it costs to get a buying customer to their store. With that knowledge, they can assure themselves that the money that they spend on advertising and marketing will turn them a profit.

If you, for example, know that you have to spend $10 to make $100, would you?  Absolutely! You’d do it over and over again, right?

Did you know that you can actually create a formula like this for your Yahoo! Store? You just have to know what kind of advertising works! You need to track your advertising efforts like you manage your check book. (Maybe that’s a bad analogy for some people…How about tracking your advertising like you manage your fantasy football league?  Hmmm…)

The point is, the data-centric nature of the Internet allows you to track exactly how well your advertising and marketing efforts are affecting your sales.  If you apply this information the right way, you can construct a formula that will tell you how much money you can afford to spend to generate a profit, virtually every time!

Don’t be adverse to spending money on the right kind of advertising. Don’t limit yourself to the free search engines, either.  If you know the right methods if you know your cost-per-sale, you can branch out into E-Zine advertising, Pay Per Click Search Engines, Opt-In Mail List Advertising, Joint Ventures… There are literally hundreds of Marketing and Advertising techniques available to you.

Use them and Profit!
